Griffonia Seeds

Known locally as ‘Atooto’ in Ghana, Griffonia seeds are from the Griffonia plant, a woody climbing shrub. They grow in pods. They are green when fresh and black when dried. When dried, the core of our well-grown Griffonia seeds is green yellow or yellow. Griffonia seeds is important because of their 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) content which is important to the human body’s ability to form serotonin, a vital neurotransmitter. No other natural source has higher content of 5-HTP than Griffonia seed.

Voacanga Seeds

Grown in tropical Africa,Voacanga seeds are found in the pulp, which is the fruit of the voacanga plant. They are ellipsoid in shape. Voacanga seeds have industrial and medicinal applications. Voacanga seeds contain indole alkaloids such as  voacamine and tabersonine. This make voacanga seeds to exhibit cytotoxic and hypotensive properties. It also gives seed oil as a by-product of the extraction of tabersonine.This oil has cosmetic and nutritional value. It is known locally in Ghana as “Medaa” or “Atweadaa”.

Fresh Ginger

One of the most important spices in the world, Ginger has powerful medicinal properties. It has powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Ginger grown in particular areas of Ghana has strong pungent smell and taste. 6-gingerol is the main component. In an article by Juliani et al (2007), The ginger samples from those grown in a part of Ghana exhibited the highest amount of total gingerols (0.66%) (6-, 8- and 10 gingerols), being almost 4 times higher than the commercial ginger (0.17). Our ginger is sourced from this particular place.

Pycnanthus angolensis seeds

Also called ‘African Nutmeg’ and locally known as “Otie” in Ghana, the seeds rich in oil are contained oblong-shaped fruits  encased in a hard shell. This aromatic non-edibe seed is a source of butter, solid reddish/yellowish fat (about 70%) called kombo butter. The oil from the seed contains Kombic acid (20%) and sargaquioic acid. All of these is a source of phytochemicals that are structurally related to the tocotrienols and have shown significant anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity.  The oil is also used in soap-making.

Irvingia gabonensis seeds

Also known as African Mango, the seeds have high fibre content. The seed extract of Irvingia gabonensis seeds have the potential to reduce cholesterol as well as other blood lipids. It also helps in weight loss by increasing fatty acid breakdown and inhibiting fatty acid synthesis.It also helps slow down gastric emptying which results in gradual absorption of sugar thereby decreasing the rise in blood glucose levels in diabetics after eating.

Cashew Nut

Cashew nut is used in food preparation to enhance taste.These kidney bean shaped nuts is a powerhouse of an array of important nutrients. Cashew nuts are rich in protein and antioxidants such as polyphenols. They are also a great source of healthy fats, including monounsaturated and polyunsaturated varieties. They also contain high magnesium content and hence help to lower LDL cholesterol levels to prevent heart disease, and also reduces the risk of stroke.

Sesame Seeds

Sesame seeds is largely used in food preparation and are extremely beneficial to health. They contain lignans and phytosterols which are plant compounds that help lower cholesterol and thereby lowering blood pressure. The sesamol in the seeds prevent a wide range of cancers. They also contain manganese and calcium which help  build strong bones. 

The oil of sesame seeds help diabetics to maintain their sugar level. Other vitamins found are phosphorus, magnesium, iron and zinc.
